About Sophie
Dogs have always been part of my life. I got my first dog in 2012, but even before that, I grew up surrounded by them. Over the years, I’ve looked after the dogs in my own family and cared for others within my community, whether that meant going on walks, playing with them, or keeping them company while their people were away.
Since moving away from home for university, I’ve really missed being around dogs. Pet sitting gives me the chance to reconnect with something that’s always been important to me: spending time with dogs and making sure they feel comfortable, safe, and cared for.
I’ve worked with many different types of dogs, including those that are older and low-energy, as well as high-energy dogs with more independent personalities. I’ve trained my own dogs and helped friends with theirs, including some basic obedience and walking practice. While I’m not a professional dog trainer, I have a lot of hands-on experience and know how to adjust to different needs and temperaments with patience and understanding.
I offer reliable and thoughtful care, always aiming to adapt to what your dog enjoys most, whether that’s a bit of exercise, some obedience practice, playing, or simply spending time together.
When I care for a dog, I focus on what works best for them and follow the routine that makes them feel most at ease. Whether it’s going on walks, feeding, playtime, or just spending time together, I adjust to the dog’s needs and their owner’s instructions. If it’s a walk, I tailor the pace and distance to the dog’s energy level, whether they prefer a short stroll or a more active run, which I’m happy to provide.
It’s currently summer break from university, so I’m very flexible and generally available throughout the week.
I’ve personally had a lot of experience with Australian Shepherds, Shiba Inu mixes, French Bulldogs, and several mixed-breed and rescue dogs. I’ve also looked after cattle dog breeds, Kuvasz, and Hovawart. Many of the dogs I’ve cared for have had unique temperaments, medical needs, or strong personalities, so I’m used to adapting to whatever a dog might require.
I’m comfortable with a wide range of temperaments and energy levels, from laid-back seniors to strong-willed, active dogs. My priority is always to make sure the dog feels safe, cared for, and comfortable, whether that means play, exercise, or simply spending time together.
I’ve been around dogs for as long as I can remember and have been helping care for them since I was a child. Growing up in a small village, I was often one of the people others turned to when they needed support with their dogs, whether it was for walks, short stays, or help with behavior. I’ve also had my own dogs since 2012. One of the dogs I’ve shared my life with joined me as a puppy, and I trained her myself, which gave me valuable hands-on experience in everything from house training to leash manners and basic obedience.
Over the years, I’ve regularly dog sat for friends, family, and neighbors. One experience that stands out is with a rescue dog who had been too afraid to go on walks for months. Her owner, a family friend, asked for my help, and with a lot of patience and consistency, I was able to slowly get the dog used to being outside. Now they go on regular long walks together, and it’s something I’m really proud of.
Unfortunately, I’m not offering dog-sitting services at my home at this time. I prefer to care for dogs in their own environment, where they feel comfortable and familiar, ensuring they receive the best care possible.
